National Council for Public History is our “charitable institution,” in Ray’s department
Conference 2019 Update
Natalia:
Almost all of the plenaries and keynotes are all set
USIH Blog editor will moderate publishers’ plenary
CFP will now include individual papers
Sarah: MLA mails badges to attendees in advance, and AAR emails badges with registration & organization supplies the lanyard. Investigate whether these are possible?
Natalia: Freshman design student might design badges
Andrew: AAR emails PDF, and then conference has a scissors station
Natalia: Wants lasting tote bags for good advertising, plus sustainability
Maybe water bottles with our logo
Rebecca: Someone from The North Star should be on the publishing plenary
Lora’s Blog Update
Via Richard:
Survey will be distributed to our readership
Asks if committee has specific questions about readership
Expanding into pre-twentieth century content
Diversifying contents and topics
Book review pretty much every week now
Have scholars contact Richard and Robert if they want to review a book for USIH
Sara: How long have you been reading the blog, and lots of other good questions
Conference 2020 Update
Sara:
Boston conference will be happening
Sarah will be visiting Sara in May
Learned a lot reading Tim’s report
Brief discussion about what time of year our conference should be in the future
Rebecca: In 2020, do we want it before or after the election
Sarah: There were many tears in the early 2000s
Maybe Columbus Day weekend or Veterans Day weekend
No Friday and Saturday night plenaries in New York and Boston because other things to do
President’s Update
Sarah:
Prize announcements are up on the website
Submission deadline is later than it has been
Committee on sexual harassment and bullying is in progress
Ad hoc committee to examine sponsor panels
Sponsored panels for OAH but not AHA
We need a committee to look at it for OAH because they want fully formed panels
Brief executive session
Andrew Hartman will chair dissertation award named for Leo Ribuffo
2019 is not a John Dewey prize year
Modern Intellectual History might develop paper presented by graduate student into journal article- Richard has a problem with diverting student attention from dissertation
