Identity Politics

The students in my seminar on “American Culture Since 1970” are wonderfully diverse in terms of students’ ethnicities, nationalities, backgrounds, interests, and even majors – UT Dallas consistently ranks among the most diverse research universities in the nation (at least per U.S. News and World Report) – and they have bravely plunged with me into texts that could make for challenging and awkward class discussion, but that we all seem to be handling with dignity and aplomb.  Last week we were discussing, among other texts, Susan Lydon’s “The Politics of Orgasm,” from Sisterhood Is Powerful.  If you think that’s an Read more
