S-USIH members, readers, and friends are asked to consider contributing to a book on U.S. intellectuals to be published in Denmark and edited by Danish scholars.
Dr. Christian Olaf Christiansen, an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of the History of Ideas at the Institute for Culture and Society, Aarhus University, Denmark, has asked S-USIH to announce a call for contributors to a book to be published in Denmark on significant intellectuals in United States history. The list of intellectuals already in the work includes: C. Wright Mills, Reinhold Neibuhr, W.E.B. Dubois, John Dewey, Richard Rorty, Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr, Martin Luther King, George F. Kennan, William F. Buckley, Jr., Michael Waltzer, and Lewis Mumford.
Intellectuals still in need of writers include: Milton Friedman, Ayn Rand, Noam Chomsky, Francis Fukuyama (or another intellectual in the neo-conservative vein), and Betty Friedan.
Contributions should be no more than 15 pages with a minimum use of endnotes, using Chicago manual of style.
The deadline for the completed essay is October 1, 2013.
Dr. Christensen asks all those who are interested to contact him or his co-editor Astrid Louise Nonbo Andersen and to send them a one page outline of the intellectual they would like to write on. The plan is to have the essays published by either a Danish press or in a Danish journal of intellectual history.
