[Editor’s Note: With this post, Kurt Newman begins a six-week guest posting gig for us. Kurt is a Ph.D. candidate at UC Santa Barbara: he works primarily with Nelson Lichtenstein, George Lipsitz, and Alice O’Connor. His area of concentration is history of capitalism/labor history, with equally divided interests in their cultural, intellectual, and legal dimensions.
