S-USIH 2016 Hotel Information
The conference will take place in the heart of Stanford campus, at the Tresidder Memorial Union and the Stanford Humanities Center. There is no on-campus lodging, but on weekdays the Stanford Marguerite Shuttle runs regularly from campus to downtown Palo Alto. Also, there will be dedicated S-USIH shuttles running from the Cardinal Hotel and Stanford Guest House on Friday morning at 8:00am and Saturday morning at 8:00am (and 8:30 from the Cardinal Hotel). In the evening after the last conference sessions, a shuttle will run to downtown Palo Alto. The area is well serviced by Uber, Lyft, and traditional taxis. Room blocks have been reserved at a variety of local hotels. Be aware that prices are considerably higher on Thursday evening. Many visitors to Stanford have luck using Air b-n-b or Craiglist for lower priced accommodations.
Cardinal Hotel – Downtown Palo Alto
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Cardinal Hotel, located at 235 Hamilton Ave in downtown Palo Alto adjacent to many restaurants, bars and shops, from Thursday, October 13th – Sunday, October 16th. The Cardinal Hotel pricing ranges from $119-$139 + tax for a room with shared bath down the hall, to $269-$289 + tax for rooms with en-suite bath. A shuttle will pick up from this location at 8:00am Friday morning, and 8:00 and 8:30am Saturday morning, and drop off here after conference sessions end in the evening.
Stanford Guest House – (SLAC Campus)
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Stanford Guest House for Thursday, October 13th – Sunday, October 16th. The price per night is $151 for a standard queen bed room and $171 for a double room. Reservations can be made 24 hours a day by phone at (650) 925-2800. Please mention the group code “INTHISCON1016” to receive the group rate. To book online, you will need to click on “Stanford University” and enter “INTHISCON1016” in the “Group Code” field to receive the discounted rate. Space is limited and the group rate is only valid until August 14th.
Please note: The Stanford Guest House is located on the grounds of the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC) in a remote area. Only registered guests are allowed on the grounds. There are very few dining places nearby, so you’ll want to plan accordingly. The Sharon Heights shopping center near SLAC is about a 10 min walk and includes restaurants, a gas station, bank, 24 hour Safeway supermarket, deli, bakery, and Starbucks. Stanford’s complimentary Marguerite shuttle system operates between SLAC (with a stop at the entrance to the Guest House) and the Stanford campus, and is available on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., approximately every 20 minutes. Additionally, a dedicated conference shuttle will pick up from this location on Friday and Saturday mornings, but the evening return shuttle will run to the Cardinal Hotel in downtown Palo Alto. From there, you can reach the Guest House via Uber, Lyft, or traditional taxi.
Palo Alto Sheraton
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Palo Alto Sheraton for Thursday, October 13th – Sunday, October 16th. The price per night for Thursday, October 13th is $309/night + tax and $149/night + tax for Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th. It is also located next to the downtown Palo Alto CalTrain Station, which is served every 10 minutes by Stanford’s Marguerite Shuttle on Friday morning (but not Saturday).
