S-USIH at #OAH2026

Greetings, historians!

S-USIH is proud to continue to host 1-2 sessions at the Organization of American Historians’ next annual meeting, to be held in Philadelphia from April 16-19, 2026. All active S-USIH members are encouraged to propose a panel or roundtable for #OAH2026.

The OAH states: “Although we encourage presentations that address the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding, the OAH has been moving away from single-themed meetings in recent years. In that spirit, we welcome proposals that explore all questions, themes, and fields, new and old, in the comprehensive subject of United States and American history. We invite proposals focused on categories and specializations of history by gender, race, sexual orientation, region, chronology, or area study. All of these areas of inquiry are at the center of our craft. At the same time, no one need design a session to fit a theme, large or small. We welcome all kinds and methods of studying American history.” Read more here.

Send submissions to Lauren Lassabe Shepherd (Laurenlassabe@gmail.com) by Friday, 25 April 2025 in a single PDF or Word document.

Proposals should include:

  • Type (panel or roundtable)
  • Panels: include a panel title, 300-word panel abstract, titles for each paper, 100 word abstract for each paper, and participants’ names and roles
  • Roundtables: include a roundtable title, 300-word panel abstract, participants’ names and roles
  • Participants’ emails and institutional affiliations (if any)
  • A biography of 200 words for each participant

Regarding A/V requests, the OAH writes: “The OAH has had to cut back on the use of AV due to increased costs. This will be especially true in Chicago where union fees add an additional strain. AV equipment will only be provided in select rooms for sessions that specifically request it. OAH will not be able to provide AV beyond audio amplification for affiliate special events such as luncheons, receptions, or special sessions. We apologize for this inconvenience.”

Please note that a participant can appear only once on the program. If you have already submitted a proposal to the OAH, do not submit a panel to this USIH call. Thank you, and we look forward to reading your proposals.
