Next Stop, Boston!

Hello, historians! We look forward to welcoming you to beautiful Boston this week for #USIH2022! As you wing your way here, please note that early bird registration rates end TODAY and there is no onsite registration available. Click on through to register. You can check out the program, cruise the restaurant guide, review our public health policy, and make your panel attendance plans here and here. We are very grateful to our fabulous co-chairs, Ben Alpers and Kate Jewell, who have led a terrific Program Committee. Hats off as well to our Executive Committee for finalizing some behind-the-scenes details. Please read on for some important conference news…

For S-USIH friends joining us in Boston, please note that most of our activities are on the 5th floor of the Sheraton, including registration. Our Thursday night plenary, Friday plenary keynote, and Saturday Presidents’ Lunch celebrating prize-winning scholarship will all happen on the 2d floor.

One quick programming note: In order to broaden access, we’re hosting this year’s business meeting on Zoom. Please mark your calendars for Monday, 14 November 2022, 6pm EDT. If you’re an active USIH member and would like to attend, please email us and we will share the link: [email protected].

And…opportunity knocks! We’re accepting YOUR submissions for the MIH-S-USIH Graduate Student Conference Paper Prize. All submissions must be based on conference papers delivered by graduate students at the Boston conference who — as of the date of their panels — had not yet received the Ph.D. degree. In recognition that some papers are based on longer articles or dissertation chapters, the committee will consider submissions between 2,500 and 10,000 words in length. Conference papers based on previously published materials will not be considered. The student will receive a prize designation and modest honorarium, and the paper will be shepherded through the publication process at Modern Intellectual History. Papers are due 31 December 2022, and you can learn more here.

Safe travels, all!
