CFP: USIH-IUPUI Community Scholars

Editor's Note

Hello, historians! We’ve extended the call to 31 January 2023. Apply now!

In partnership with the Institute for American Thought at IUPUI, the Society for U.S. Intellectual History is pleased to announce the creation of a new opportunity to support contingent faculty, independent scholars, and historians who work beyond the academy: the USIH-IUPUI Community Scholars Program.

The USIH-IUPUI Community Scholars Program will encourage scholarship and address the inequity of resource access that can often impede work. We will select up to 10 scholars for two years’ worth of full onsite and remote access to IUPUI Libraries’ materials and databases, via an IUPUI email address.

During that time, they will contribute 6 posts to the USIH blog and participate in USIH annual meeting panels and events. Finally, they will present their scholarship in a culminating conference held onsite at the Institute at IUPUI. The USIH-IUPUI Community Scholars program is designed to unlock resources, open channels of communication between historians, and boost scholars’ visibility through diverse forms of publication and presentation.

In addition to advancing their scholarship, USIH-IUPUI Community Scholars will join a vibrant set of colleagues in dialogue on topics of American history, thought, and culture. Civic engagement at IUPUI takes many different forms and draws upon both institutional and external resources to meet educational objectives across teaching, research, and service. Community Scholars may have the opportunity to make significant and meaningful contributions to meeting educational objectives for IUPUI students through community-based learning activities, research, or professional service. As a remote, research-based role, there is no teaching requirement to fulfill, and there is no monetary award available. Please reach out with any questions, and submit all application material in a single file [.PDF or .DOC] by Thursday, 1 December 2022, to: [email protected]
