Mike O’Connor, founding member of S-USIH and former blogger for the society, has had a recent article published in The Sixties: A Journal of History, Politics and Culture entitled, “Liberals in Space: The 1960s Politics of Star Trek.”
O’Connor received his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master’s degree in philosophy from Boston University. He has taught at the New York Institute of Technology and Penn State-Erie. He is an intellectual historian whose primary interests are in the areas of U.S. political economy, particularly as it relates to the varying conceptions of American liberalism. His article “The Limits of Liberalism: Pragmatism, Democracy and Capitalism” has appeared in the journalContemporary Pragmatism, and he is working on a book titled A Commercial Republic: Democratic Capitalism in American Thought. Beside being a founding member of the Society for U.S. Intellectual History, O’Connor also chaired the 2011 S-USIH conference committee and was the society’s first treasurer.
