Studs Terkel, an oral historian and journalist, died yesterday at the age of 96. My wife and I read one of his last books, Will the Circle Be Unbroken?, which was a collection of oral history about people’s views and approaches to death. Yet when asked about what the book was about, he answered, “It’s about life. How can one talk about life without saying sometime it’s going to end? It makes the value of life all the more precious.” There are thoughtful obituaries here and here. –DS
