S-USIH has fortunately attracted a wide variety of academic intellectual historians AND a variety of intellectual historians who work outside the academia. Among that latter group is Sarah Leonard, an editor at both New Inquiry and Jacobin, relatively new journals of the left, and Dissent, a now classic journal of the left. Her essays range from art to finance and she has solidly supported S-USIH as it has developed through conferences and the blog.
Like James Livingston, Sarah Leonard has observed, argued for, and been directly involved with (to the point of being arrested) Occupy Wall Street. She co-edited a book on the early days of the Occupy movement.
